How much does a Kardex system cost?

The cost of a Kardex system depends very much on the size required to do the job as well as the limitations of the location where it will be sited. With 10 different widths, three different depths and heights ranging from 2.55m to over 30m the actual price of a system can vary enormously. However, Kardex Vertical Storage systems are extremely cost effective, with a payback period from 12 to 36 months, quoted by most of our existing customers.  Floor space savings of up to 90% along with much improved stock accuracy and far more efficient storage all help to make sure that the system will very quickly become a valuable asset to any organisation.

How much can it store?

Again based on the huge variety of systems available this is impossible to say. We would normally carry out a no obligation site survey to allow us to provide a proposal document which will outline the type and size of system which you will require for your storage problems.

However a typical 7m high Shuttle XP with 64 trays measuring 2450mm x 864mm provides a huge 135m2 of storage area in a system which only takes up 8.55m2. More trays may be added to the Shuttle if space allows, thus providing even more storage area.

What size is a Kardex system?

This depends upon the height of the room, location of the system and how much you wish to store, typically from 6m to 10m high but we have many systems of both a lower and much higher width and height.

What happens if it breaks down?  How do I get my parts out?

If the system breaks down a fault code is displayed. Due to Kardex’s in-depth initial operator training, most of these faults can be easily cleared by the operator. If a service engineer is required, our Service Department’s freephone number should be called. The fault is immediately passed to your local Senior Service Technician who may be able to help clear the fault with a simple telephone call. If this is not possible, the nearest available engineer will be allocated.  Kardex have guaranteed response times of 8 hours, however most calls are cleared within 4 hours ensuring your system is functional and your stored parts made available to you in the quickest possible time.

Is the system secure?

Kardex systems are very secure. Automated shutter doors mean that the access is only open to allow a tray to be placed. Individual operator pin numbers can help ensure that certain trays can only be accessed by authorised users.

Can it interface with my ERP, MRP system?

Yes, Our Powerpick Software can interface with many of today’s MRP and ERP systems including SAP, Walter TDM, Infor, Bauner, Baan, Brain, J.D. Edwards.

What is a typical payback time?

Payback depends on many factors however a 12-24 month payback period is not unusual.  A Shuttle installed in an electronics manufacturing company, with the saved floor space being utilised by production can show a payback period of a few months. A system installed for storing parts in a motor dealership can possibly free up enough space to allow one or two more revenue generating service bays to be installed or a larger showroom with more vehicles displayed.

Do you train operators?

A  Project Manager is allocated for EVERY installation which we do. It is part of his role to carry out training on all aspects of the new system including operation, loading, safety features.  At the end of the training session, each person who completed the course will receive a certificate showing they are competent to use the system.

How long does it take to build the Kardex system?

A typical Shuttle will take 3.5 to 4 working days depending on the size of system. A carousel may take slightly less. Our Project Manager will liaise with you very closely to ensure that build times meet your requirements.

What happens if it needs to be moved?

Kardex Vertical Storage systems can be moved; indeed much of the work of our Logistics Departments is moving systems. We can move systems internally, to a new building or even to another country.
