The choice of the correct file type and index is crucial but can often be overlooked in the overall project. It is the correct choice of hardware combined with the most appropriate filing software which will produce the ultimate solution. It is essential to choose the right type of folder for the anticipated application. These are some of the questions needing to be answered:

• Is this a permanent or temporary folder?
• What size and quantity of papers will be placed in it?
• Will there be a need to segment the folder into different sections?
• Will I need to keep paperwork loose or fastened?
• In what equipment is the folder to be housed lateral shelf or drawer, hanging or sitting on a shelf?
